Why I Didn’t Watch The Oscars
Posted by Simple Dude | Posted in TV | Posted on 27-02-2012
I did not watch The Oscars last night. Not one single minute of it. Although the topic of watching it was briefly brought up between the Lady Friend and myself.
In fact, this is an actual conversation that took place:
Ok, so that’s not 100% accurate. It ended more like this…
What did I end up watching? Some OTHER crappy movie… we probably would have been better off watching The Oscars.
Sigh…

Ha ha ha ha!!! Genius!
And no, you were still better off not watching the Oscars.

So you missed having the’ is that Jlo’s nip conversation’? (Which may have been the most interesting thing in the whole show.) And it may have changed the course of your evening.

I completely forgot that the Oscars were on. I don’t think I have ever watched them in my life. If I like a movie, I like it. I really don’t need to watch other people validate whether my viewing choices are top notch. In fact, I purposely watch some of the worst movies made because they’re hysterical to make fun of. Those are never on the Oscars. Like last night I watched Death Race 2000 from 1974. Did Stallone win an Oscar for that? Holy crap I hope not, but it was hysterical.

You didn’t miss much except I did give Octavia Spencer a standing ovation when she won and I cried right along with her. She’s a class act!!!!!!!!!!

It was nice to see Billy Crystal hosting again. I was glad that Octavia Spencer won. Although you did miss Sasha Baron Cohen dumping some kind of ash all over Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet. THAT was actually awesome. lol

Girl with the dragon tattoo was a decent movie, but I didn’t watch the oscars either. It’s too long of a show without any real drama.
When are the MTV VMA’s on next?

My first thought at reading your title: ‘because they’re boring?’ I didn’t watch either. I have ZERO desire to see any of the award shows. Some of the movies nominated I saw and others I still need to see. But some little golden man isn’t going to influence that at all.

Well of course I didn’t watch the Oscars since I am in a different country and I not even know if they were being shown here last night but if they were I wouldn’t have watched them don’t know why I just wouldn’t. Although I do like to watch the Logies when they are on…………

Well as a dressmaker, I watched the entire red carpet event muted, then watched the oscars (muted again) when my other show was at commercial. My boyfriend patiently bore with it since at least I was merciful and turned the sound OFF!!
He is so kind, when he wants to be.

There simply isn’t anything to watch. No action, no singing, no slam dunking, no three point shooting… Just people making speeches where they thank the God they seem to only believe in when it suits them and endlessly thanking agents and publicists. And the music always starts playing telling them to get off the stage long before they are done talking. Maybe they should add some slime or a trap door that opens on given words (“Academy” comes to mind)

You didn’t miss much, man.
Except for the Cirque du Soleil performance, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Oh and you missed Billy Crystal laughing at himself.

I became very aware that the Oscars were on last night when I turned my phone on this morning. I had over 200 text messages from my Twitter people that were posting as they watched it. Locked my phone up for 30 minutes.

I don’t watch the Oscar’s but had a boring friend who gave a horrific play by play of the Oscar action on FB and I think my account wanted to stab itself after that. My Newsfeed just went ahead and killed its on self off.

Boy do understand that. It was about half way through the Oscars before one of us mentioned they were on. We both agreed it wasn’t what we were interested in and we could check online later for what we were interested in anyway.
So we went on with what we were doing, which was of much more interest and left the Oscars info for later. As it turned out we both were tweeted about the results anyway.

I only ever watch the red carpet, but only the last five minutes because they run through all the dresses at once and I don’t have to the blather. Last year was the exception. I left the show run in the background only because Anne Hathaway hosted and Rachel Zoe is her stylist. I’m a sucker for fashion.
