ABC’s “Work It” Didn’t Get The Job Done
Posted by Simple Dude | Posted in TV | Posted on 17-01-2012
Hey folks.. I wanted to take a minute to tell you about this great new sitcom on ABC called Work It. It will sort of remind you of the old Tom Hanks TV show Bosom Buddies. It stars one of the guys from Prison Break, a show I personally liked a lot.

Here they are, as both dudes and dudettes
From what I have read, Work It centers around two guys who are having a tough time getting a job in this bad economy. So they decide to increase their chances by dressing up like women. Or maybe it has nothing to do with jobs and is just a fetish thing, who knows.
But when you have dudes dressing up like dudettes there is no doubt hilarity will ensue! It premiered on January 3rd, so I am looking forward to catching it soon.
Wait… what’s that? CANCELLED? The show was cancelled already? After only two episodes? Yikes. And it was such a funny premise, I just don’t get it. (sarcasm)
It seems every year there is a new show that gets made and only lasts a handful of episodes before being dumped. I always wonder about these shows. Are there people out there who really love them (other than those working on the show) and are completely heartbroken when it goes off the air?
Over the years I’ve I liked some shows that get cancelled after one full season, but I’ve never liked a show that was pulled off the air in five episodes or less. I would probably wonder what the hell was wrong with me for liking a show that was apparently so bad.
One I liked about 4 or 5 years ago was a funny show called The Class. It lasted one full season and was axed.
Have you had a favorite show cancelled in less than a season?

The upside of DVD box sets is that sometimes you find one of those shows that got cancelled after one season (or mid season) and then you sit down and watch it and realize that it was actually cancelled for a good reason.. ie, it actually was pretty terrible (ie. Greg the Bunny, The Tick -live action version).
I remember one show that was cancelled after one EPISODE, and that one episode was AWESOME. It was the Book of Daniel, and it starred Aidan Quinn. But I guess a lot of people got their panties in a bunch over showing a pastor with a pill addiction, gay son and another son who was a big whore. Sucks, because I think it had a lot of potential.
Freaks and Geeks was probably the best show I ever saw that never made it past one season. The cancellation of that show is STILL a tragedy to this day.

Sorry the Book Of Daniel was cancelled after four episodes. I only saw one.

Oh yeah, many years ago I started watching this adult soap opera, which was mystery based. The name escapes me, but it was a group of gorgeous friends who had not seen each other since high school or college. One of them was murdered and the show centered around “who done it”. The show was cancelled before the mystery was revealed and I was left hangin’.

One of my favorite shows of all time was Joss Whedon’s Firefly. It lasted 15 episodes which was far, far too few. The show was absolutely incredible and even though it only got a partial season, it still has a cult following. So sad.

@Deb: I actually vaguely remember that show, although I don’t think I ever watched it. Was it called Reunion or something like that?
@Andie: I think that show Book of Daniel is one that looked interesting to me but it was gone before I had a chance to sample it. I guess the lesson is when a show strikes your fancy, you better watch it QUICK.

Oh wow! I saw the previews for this one. I wasn’t excited for the premiere and honestly gave it no more thought that seeing a preview, buuuut whatevers. that is crazy it lasted on 2 episodes. I don’t know that I have ever liked a show that lasted briefly like that. Dang. I’d def begin to worry about myself though. then again I don’t always understand the stupid shit they put on tv these days! Maybe someone was offended by this one!

No clue how that show even made it past the first script reading.

I blame myself for a lot of cancelled shows – it started with “Journeyman” in 2007 on NBC with Kevin McKidd, and then “My Own Worst Enemy” with Christian Slater in 2008. I gave up on NBC, following Christian Slater to ABC and “The Forgotten” in 2009. I also set my dvr for a show called “Flash Forward”, but specifically didn’t watch it until the season was over, and it had made it. The weekend after I got caught up on it, they cancelled the show. Needless to say, I don’t watch anything on network tv anymore….

What’s funny is ABC is one of the more conservative, family-friendly stations out there. They’re big in the bible belt and in religious households because of America’s Funniest Home Videos and a lot of ‘safe’ shows.
Then a drag-show comes along, and people are surprised it failed. If it were on NBC (who remembers Will & Grace) it would have been geared to a more progressive, tolerant audience, and would still be on the air.

I loved “Better Off Ted” Technically it had more than one season, but it was only shown in the summer. If it was a season that went fall through spring it would have been on less than a full season. It was on ABC. It was a show about people working for a scientific company. It was so funny.

@Ruth: Better Off Ted was a good show. That reminds me – Man Up was a show that ran this past fall that had a similar comedy style as Better Off Ted, and ironically, it was cancelled after just 9 episodes. That was a true travesty, very funny show.

Firefly.
There was much sadness when that got cancelled.
X-Factor
There is still much sadness that it hasn’t been cancelled

The first half-season of Anne Hathaway’s debut Get Real was a great concept, as the show bounced back and forth from her mind to reality. Then came low ratings, hiatus, re-started as an uninteresting vanilla version of its former self, and cancelled. Definately the best show I never got a chance to enjoy.

I remember the Class! Great show… with that guy who is now on Modern Family, and Jason Ritter, and someone else I recognized…. saw all the episodes on a long flight and laughed right thru.
My fave short-lived show was an americanized version of Ab Fab called “High Society” with Jean Smart… better than it sounds, and should have made it…

Almost as bad is when you do get hooked on a show and then they start shifting it’s time slot until finally it is on at godawful oclock and you cant be bothered trying to even record it because you have already missed half the season.
(have you noticed I have moved my blog?)

I love all things SciFi. You would never know that from my blog. I was heart broken when Where House 13 disappeared. I love the characters in the show, quirky and fun. Susan Cooper

Cocaine and hookers causes network executives to make rash decisions. It’s no their fault. If God didn’t want them to be high and infected with 10 different venereal diseases, then he would’ve prevented hookers and cocaine to be invented.
