Two B.O.N.s For The Price Of One

First off, I passed the 100 follower mark at some point last night and am tickled pink. You all are awesome and i’ll do whatever I can to prove i’m worth your time. So please for the love of God don’t unfollow me!
I haven’t been blogging for too long but I follow a lot of blogs, some of which I found through all of your blogs. Others through the bloggers finding me and commenting here. Still others (like Kristine’s, Annah’s & Charles’sss) I found through the Blog Of Note feature on Blogger. A little something those of us in the biz like to call B.O.N. as in Annah got BON’d this summer and that’s how I found her blog. It’s not sexual, although in her case I am sure she found a way to make it sexy!
There has been long debate on what exactly it takes to get yourself BON’d. Does one just continue to blog as normal pretending it doesn’t exist? Ignoring the fact that it’s out there.. and that each and every day another blog gets BON’d. Some of them just for showing pictures of horses, ceramic toads, beaded purses or tie dyed moccasins?!?
Or is it better for one to beg repeatedly for a solid BONing. Posting about it, losing sleep over it, tweeting it, telling homeless people on the street how much it would mean to you. Only to wind up disappointed time and time again. Secretly dying a little inside each time you click on Blog of Note only to see another shit-ass blog about Russian headgear or Chilean mine safety has been chosen once again.
I feel there is a third option. To have someone out there like your blog enough to pimp it for you. That’s what I am going to do here. I know lots of great bloggers but for today we’re going to focus on just two who are highly BON worthy. Pay attention Blog Of Note Gods or Goddesses… you need to immediately BON The Journey and The Ranter’s Box. Not only were Rabbit and The Empress two of the first bloggers I followed in my long strange blogoverse trip but to this day they are two of my favorites.
Both are similar in that they put time, thought and honesty into their writing. They are both at the top of my list when it comes to reading material and should be at the top of yours as well. But you reading them is not the point of this post. This post is to get them fucking BON’d dammit. I don’t quite get how the selection process goes but would like to find out. I know it’s not about traffic or post frequency because in the last two months I have seen blogs get BON’d that haven’t posted in weeks. As the bit on SNL goes “What up with that?”
Maybe someday i’ll be BON worthy, but I don’t want it before these two. Yes, I know what you are thinking… I am a Simple Dude and can be a selfish prick so what gives? What the fuck. I could use some good karma so i’m trying to do something nice. Besides… Santa’s watching and we’re only a couple months away from his day.
On a more personal note (always gotta bring this shit back to me don’t I?) I won an award this week. I mentioned it in an earlier post but this is the first chance I have had to show it off.

Oh, I am sooo jealous! It took me two months to get up to 40 followers and that's where I seem to be stuck! But y'know what? I love all 40 of 'em, so wtf.
Congrats on (yet another) award! You know why you keep getting these things, don'tcha? It's cuz you're so awesome…and so modest! =)

Two months for 40? WTF? I love all my 22, but seriously people need to get BON'ed. I don't understand how the process works either but those that don't really post anything is just a waste of the BON.

This is the NICEST, COOLEST most awesome post I have read in a long time. THANK YOU so much for your kind words and for providing the link over to my snarky word perv blog. I am beyond touched by the gesture.
I discovered that the Blogger team has a facebook page and they are on twitter. Just yesterday I whored myself out and tweeted them asking what a girl needs to do to get B.O.N.'ed.
Surely the amazing Annah and Charles know the secret to arriving at B.O.N.'dom. Annah might have even mentioned that bloggers went on a campaign for her. Maybe it works?

Congratulations!! I loved the day i hit 100! Way to go! I've come to a place now where as much as I'd love to be at 200 by the end of the year, I love that the people who do follow, are faithful followers. (Please don't read this and leave). Good for you re: the award too! Nice job paying it forward while still bringing it back to you! Love it!

"telling homeless people on the street how much it would mean to you" I think I read something in the scientific journal Nature or Science that this was the best technique for BON… based on their algorithms of course. So I'm now doing this on a daily basis.

You are seven kinds of awesome. Thank you for that. I have about given up on ever getting BON'd. I think I say FUCK too much…
And I keep meaning to tell you thank you times ten – I get TONS of referrals from this blog over to mine. You are one of my highest referring sites. So mucho grassy asses.
And though (I say I) have given up on my proper BONing, I am still pestering the hell out of them. I figure if I annoy them enough, they'll bend me over just to shut me up…

I was studying one of the recent sites that received a BON award. Before, it had around 100 followers. A few days after, it was up over 450 followers. Also, the number of comments for the day of the award was over 90, last time I looked (much higher than the average for that blog). But here's what's interesting. Almost all of the comments were like this: "Love your blog, please read mine." I doubt most commenters read her blog, just used it to get traffic on theirs. Likewise with the followers, I think. Well, I guess there's nothing wrong with that. This is hardly rocket science, but thought it was kind of interesting.

That is interesting, and probably no surprise. If you can double or quadruple your followers by getting BON'd then at least more people are aware of what you are doing – but if they are just trying milk your instant fame for their own purposes I guess that kind of stinks.
With luck you have a blog worthy enough to keep them around. But there are some really.. REALLY crappy blogs that have been BON'd so I am wondering if it's as much random as anything else.

Just wanted let you know that half the people that followed me as a result of BON don't read my blog. So although the #1000 followers looks nice, in theory, only 1/4 of those people actually come back.

I know right, I've been tweeting Blogger all week begging them to pick me for Blogger of Note. No, I have no self-respect, I'm ok with that. As Annah said though, sometimes those numbers don't look so good when only your faithful friends/followers keep coming back. It's funny to read this post today of all days though, because I just got on the whole Blogger of Note bandwagon on Tuesday.

I hardly look at the BON. I barely have any followers. On any of my blogs. I know some people that read, they just aren't followers.

so late with this. but last week, a blog got BON'd that hadn't posted anything new since mid-september. not sure who's running that BONing show, but they need to step up their shit.
